Cast
The Cast of Death by Dice are, for the most part, fictional. Only one of the characters has any real likeness to someone, and that would be our main Storyteller. (Alex mistakenly gave us permission to use him. Muahahahaha!) The rest are a compilation of gamer stereotypes and idiosyncrasies. As we find more jokes, they gain quirks to match.
If you think you see anyone you know, then it means we’ve done our job in identifying types of geek. ~Desz
Cheese Weasel:
Every gamer knows them. The guy who always has to have the latest supplements and the more powerful things in them. If there’s a loophole that allows them to do more than max damage, they’ll find it. If they can find or invent a spell that allows them to cast fireballs the size of the moon, he’s going to find it. Ever alert and on the look out for awesome cheese, the Cheese Weasel is one of the best known gamer types out there.
Combat Wombat:
There’s always one in every group. Must have the biggest, baddest weapon in the universe. He knows exactly which imaginary weapon will yield the best results, and always thinks the best defense is a good offense. The solution to every problem usually involves beating up the bad guys and killing the mooks before asking questions. (The Wombat is also a nod to several friends in Austrailia.)
Fan Boy and Fan Girl:
Yes, there’s one of each. The “Fans” tend to be the most enthusiastic about their chosen venues or universes. Whether it be Hello Kitty or the new BSG, their favorite game or their favorite classic movies, these two can talk about their favored subjects for hours on end. The downside of such enthusiasm is a preoccupation to the point where they miss certain social lessons. The extreme Fan Boys and Fan Girls tend to be somewhat socially awkward (and occasionally smelly), finding solace in other gamers and fans. What they lack in social graces they usually make up for with huge hearts.
Alex
Though all of the cast have the ability to Dungeon Master or Story Tell, Alex is by far the most dedicated to the craft. He attempts to run a fair and balanced game, all the while being hounded by the others for Cheese. He’s representative of all the good though not infallible leaders in the gaming and fandom community.
Bridget
The counter part to Alex, Bridget represents the female contingent. Even within the last few years more and more women are finding themselves sucked into gaming and geekdom, increasing the women to men ratio. Bridget is more selective about the games she runs, and can be a ruthless competitor in Lunch Money competitions, but is otherwise a part of the glue that keeps the group together.
Ken
Every group has the “stealth” gamer. The guy that cannot be picked out as a fan in a crowd, has a normal 9-5 job, and would never strike anyone as a geek - until they see his bedroom full of knick knacks and collectible toys.
Monique
Goth sub culture fits very well into parts of the gaming community. Monique is also often the sacrastic cutting wit that keeps her fellow gamers in check. Despite the hardened and disdainful exterior, she’s actually quite fond of her gaming group. (She’ll just never admit it to the other Goths she hangs out with at the coffee shop.)
Muffy:
New and shiny, Muffy is a brand new gamer. She is the polar opposite of the Gothic culture, and eager to make friends. Unfortunately her lack of understanding of gamer culture gets her into trouble more often than not. With a touch of shamelessness to boot.
Sleazy:
I know most of the women can attest that there’s always one in every group. The guy who will hit on everything that moves. He’s got one goal in mind, and uses the tools of gamer culture to further his cause. Generally seen with more social characters, often specialties or bonuses in seduction rolls.
Aaron:
Aaron is the typical example of a “casual” gamer. He has his chosen universes, but doesn’t spend nearly as much time or energy on them as others would. When he’s in the zone, he’s as enthusiastic as the rest, but when he’s off on his own, he’s more likely to stay away for weeks at a time, and not notice. Most likely, he has to be reminded that there’s an event going on.
